      Type of Service - Non-Emergency Medical Transportation for East Windsor residents who are aged 60 or older or adults 18 or older who have an ADA or SSD qualified disability

      Additional Information

      The program is a curb-to-curb service; clients must be capable of getting themselves out to and onto the vehicle unassisted. Clients who are not physically able or not capable of self-care must bring a companion or care person for assistance. Our drivers provide assistance for wheelchair clients on and off the vehicle and secure wheelchairs into position on the vehicle only. Drivers are not permitted to enter homes or buildings.

      This service provides transportation to:

      • Senior Community Cafe´ (Lunch Program held at the Senior Center)
      • Shopping
      • Banking
      • Senior Center Sponsored Programs & Activities

      The transportation program is a pre-scheduled service. All appointments must be scheduled with the Transportation Coordinator only.

      Reservations need to be made at least 7 days in advance.
      Medical appointments are allotted one hour; if you need more than one hour please make arrangements with the Transportation Coordinator when you schedule your appointment. If additional time is not scheduled in advance it may be necessary for you to seek alternate transportation home, or you may have to leave without finishing your appointment.

      Making a medical appointment. When making medical appointments it is necessary for you to provide the coordinator with the following information:

      DAY SURGERY In the event of day surgery, you must bring a companion in with you, or you will need to seek alternate transportation home. We are unable to transport clients once they have been administered medication if they do not have a care person or companion with them.

      UNSCHEDULED STOPS Please do not ask the driver to make unscheduled stops; all appointments need to be made through the Transportation Coordinator. Please be ready when the vehicle arrives, other passengers have scheduled appointments as well.

      UNSURE OF YOUR PICK-UP TIME? If you are unsure of your scheduled pick-up time, please call the Coordinator after 12:00 noon on the day prior to your scheduled appointment.

      CANCELLATIONS may be called into our voicemail at 860-292-8261, 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. In the event of a cancellation with less than two hours notice the trip will be recorded as a “no-show”. If there are three “no-shows” in a one month period we will suspend the Transportation Service for a one month period. All additional no-shows will result in a three-month suspension of service.

      With regard to circumstances beyond our control, i.e. drivers calling out sick, van breakdowns, or unexpected delays, it may be necessary for us to cancel your scheduled trip.

      INCLEMENT WEATHER In the event of inclement weather, we follow the same schedule as the East Windsor school system. Please listen to WTIC Radio Station 1080 or Channel 3 for school closings. When the school system has a delayed opening due to inclement weather, the Transportation Program will also have a delayed start time. When the East Windsor schools close early due to unfavorable road conditions, it may be necessary to shorten our service day. Clients who are at their destinations should finish their business as quickly as possible so that everyone may be brought home safely.
